Who is Phoebe Waller Bridge?

Phoebe Waller Bridge is a world-renowned writer, actress and television producer. Her best-known work is the award-winning situation comedy series Fleabag, which was based on her Edinburgh Festival play of the same name.

Why has Phoebe Waller Bridge collaborated with Edinburgh Gin on this special edition bottle?

Phoebe has collaborated with Edinburgh Gin to create a special limited-edition bottle that tells the inside story of her iconic work and its connection with Edinburgh Every penny of profit will be donated to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which will support artists to create and bring work to the Fringe.

What is Fleabag?

Fleabag is a situation comedy created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, based on her acclaimed theatre show first performed in 2013 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Pheobe Waller-Bridge stars as the title character, a free-spirited woman living in London, the protagonist frequently breaks the fourth wall to provide exposition, internal monologues, and a running commentary to the audience. The received extensive acclaim from critics, particularly for its writing, acting, and the uniqueness and of the title character.

The bottle design itself is inspired by the memories and experience of her time in Edinburgh when first performing Fleabag. the spot-lit solitary chair she’d use to perform on stage, to the bittersweet exchange seen in the closing scenes of the second series (handwritten on the bottle by both Phoebe and Andrew Scott.

Who designed the bottle and what were the inspirations?

Working with the Edinburgh Gin team, Phoebe has created an original Fleabag bottle. Arriving in the city years ago to perform her unknown, one-woman play, rave reviews of Phoebe’s work quickly led to sell-out shows. From unexpected beginnings to the final scene of her iconic series, her never-to-be-made-again, limited-edition Edinburgh Gin Classic bottle design tells the inside story of Fleabag. It also celebrates the role of Edinburgh in making it happen.

How much is the Phoebe Waller Bridge bottle?

The special edition bottles are priced at £48. 100% of the profits from sales of the bottle will be going to charity. Contributing to the arts’ recovery by creating a fund that will help the next generation of talent to return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022, its 75th anniversary. More than £150,000 is hoped to be raised.

Is every bottle identical?

Designed by Phoebe, the hand-drawn illustration is specially screen printed onto our bespoke, small batch Edinburgh Gin bottles. Whilst each bottle has the same design, there may be slight variations in glass appearance - this is completely normal. Some flecks will naturally occur when the glass is produced.

What should I drink with the gin in my Phoebe Waller Bridge Bottle?

Charity

Where are the charitable funds from bottle sales going and why?

Every penny of profit from this bottle will provide precious support for Edinburgh Festival Fringe performers in 2022 and beyond. We’re hoping that at least £150,000 is raised for the fund.

The Fringe is known for being the greatest celebration of arts and culture on the planet, and that’s in no small part due to the brilliant artists that make it happen every year. Artists tell vital stories, help us make sense of things, and make Edinburgh an even more magical place to be in August.

It’s essential that artists are supported to recover. This collaboration between the Fringe Society, Edinburgh Gin and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be a much-needed lifeline to so many Fringe artists, it will enable them to get back to doing what they do best.

What is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

Established in 1947 it takes place every year in Edinburgh. For three weeks in August, the city of Edinburgh welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has become a world-leading celebration of arts and culture, surpassed only by the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup in terms of ticket sales for an event.

It was during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe that Pheobe Waller Bridge first performed her one woman show, Fleabag. Her experience in Edinburgh during the Fringe has inspired the bottle design and the collaboration.
